RETIREMENT MONEY MANAGEMENT 1 -- PROCESS AND CONCEPTS

From building the retirement nest egg to assuring that a person does not outlive income, retirement planning is a lifelong process. With the aging of the baby-boom generation, retirement planning and money management has taken on added importance as the largest cohort in U.S. history marches ever closer to those retirement years. This course, and its two sister 2-hour courses (Retirement Money Management 2 -- Building the Nest Egg and Retirement Money Management 3 -- Making It Last) are a broad and rather comprehensive overview of the fundamental principles of retirement accumulation and liquidation. Although each of these courses may stand alone, students who are considering taking each of these courses are encouraged to take them in order – 1, 2, then 3 – but it is not absolutely necessary.

Major topics include:

  • A host of retirement investment and money management concepts beginning with the process of building the retirement nest egg, including the critical factors entering the analysis – rates of return, taxes, inflation, etc.;
  • The concept of asset-class investing, providing both theoretical as well as a real-world application demonstrating the advantages of employing the concepts; and
  • Discussing some of the additional opportunities presenting themselves for broadening the asset classes included in one’s long-term portfolio, including stocks from emerging markets, commodities, and real estate.
