Overview

Many tax practitioners had their first encounter with the Form 1095 series when some of their clients received Form 1095-A’s from the health care exchanges in early 2015. The 1095 forms are filed by the marketplace (1095-A), other insurers (1095-B), or by the employer (1095-C). 2015 is the first year for mandatory health insurance reporting on Forms 1095-B and 1095-C, and employer reporting of employee health insurance on Form 1095-C will be particularly important. This program will get tax practitioners up to speed on the Form 1095 series and equip them to advise both their employer and employee clients about what these forms report, the income tax implications of such reporting, and who is required to file such forms.

Major Topics:

  • Types of information reported on Form 1095-A
  • Types of information reported on Form 1095-B
  • The difference between Form 1095-B and Form 1095-C
  • Which employers file Form 1095-B rather than Form 1095-C
  • Definition of large employer for purposes of Form 1095-C
  • Transmittal forms (Forms 1094-A, 1094-B and 1094-C) associated with the Form 1095 series
